Health System Unveils New Name, Logo
Memorial Medical Center will become Springfield Memorial Hospital, and Passavant Area Hospital will be known as Jacksonville Memorial Hospital
Updating the health system’s names on Oct. 1 better reflects its coordinated operations, says president and CEO of Memorial Health
SPRINGFIELD – Highlighting the unity of the health system’s numerous services, Memorial Health System will rebrand itself and will rename three of its five hospitals and many of its outpatient services.
Memorial Health System will become simply Memorial Health. The names of its five hospitals will follow an identical pattern, listing their locations followed by the words, “Memorial Hospital.” The new names will take effect this Friday, Oct. 1.
Memorial Medical Center will become Springfield Memorial Hospital, and Passavant Area Hospital will be known as Jacksonville Memorial Hospital. Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital will drop the first word in its name to become Lincoln Memorial Hospital. The names of Decatur Memorial Hospital and Taylorville Memorial Hospital already align with this approach and will remain the same.
Memorial Health’s 19 physician clinics and ExpressCare locations will be known as Memorial Care.
“The COVID-19 pandemic showed us the strength of our health system,” said Ed Curtis, Memorial Health president and CEO. “We were able to share resources, ideas and expertise across communities, benefiting the entire region. Our new brand makes it easier for the people we serve to understand that strength and recognize the breadth of the services we offer. Memorial Health isn’t a series of related affiliates; it’s a single organization that provides a continuum of care.”
The public will begin to see new signage in early October.
Memorial Health will replace its nearly half-century-old triple cross emblem with a new logo featuring four red inward arches that form a diamond-like pattern.
“Our new logo is a modern evolution and refresh of our triple cross logo and uses the same familiar red that people associate with our health system,” said Aimee Daily, senior vice president and chief transformation officer for Memorial Health. “Not only does our new logo reflect the integrated strength of Memorial Health, but also carries with it a sense of innovation and forward thinking.”
The organization will have a new website as of Oct. 1: memorial.health.
The COVID-19 pandemic transformed the field of health care, which was why it was time to update the system’s names to better reflect its coordinated operations, Curtis said. “Today, we are a stronger organization with a reaffirmed commitment to our shared values and a clearer sense of commitment to our communities,” he said.
“It’s time to share our transformation as we introduce ourselves to our communities as Memorial Health,” Daily said. “Our streamlined name helps the public understand that all our affiliates are part of a single organization that provides a comprehensive array of health services spanning all levels of intensity of care.”
“Whenever people see the Memorial Health name and our new logo – whether at a hospital, at a clinic or online – they’ll know they can expect the same skilled, compassionate, patient-focused care they’ve come to trust,” Curtis said.
The rebranding initiative affects dozens of entities, service lines and products within Memorial Health but does not affect the services or programs offered. A full list of the new names throughout the organization will be available on Oct. 1 on the website at memorial.health.
